Moms get in the picture! | Austin and Round Rock Texas Family Photographer

I’ll admit it. I’m guilty of this.

Mom and Kids photography-Family Photographer_Round Rock Photographer_Emily Ingalls Photography_Austin Photographer_Pflugerville Photographer_Georgetown Photographer-3.jpg

As a Mom, I take photos of my children for them to have when they are older. I want them to remember the fun times, the silly times, and the dirty times of their childhood. I want them to have photos of their birthdays, special events, the sports they played, and the vacations we go on. I want them to have photos of their brothers and sister, and our whole family.

But… sadly, I’m hardly in any photos with my kids.

Usually, it’s because I’m the one behind the camera as the family photographer. And I’m a bit of a control freak and won’t hand my camera off to just anyone. It took me about a year before I felt comfortable giving it to my husband.

If I’m not behind the camera, I always have an excuse. Not a good one per se, but an excuse nonetheless.

However… here comes the dilemma only I can solve.

If I don’t get in any photos with my kids, how will they remember me?

So this Mother’s Day, I’m making it a point to get in a photo with my kids!

And I’m encouraging all Moms to get in a photograph with your kids too! Give your kids a great memory to remember when they’re older. Give them the gift of you!

7 Mother's Day gifts for Mom

Mother’s Day is right around the corner! Do you know what you’re going to get her?

This year has flown by for me, and I can’t believe Mother’s Day is so close.

I know shopping for Mother’s Day gifts can be stressful, so I’ve put together a short list of some ideas for what you can get your Mom/Grandma/Stepmom (or anyone special in your life) for Mother’s Day.

Photo printed on glass by Fracture

I love these and one in my house. Fracture takes your photo and prints them on glass as a wall hanging. These are great for someone that doesn’t want to mess with framing, likes clean lines, and has a modern flare. Tthey are priced really well from $17-$135 for their largest.

Digital photo frame

We are all guilty of taking lots of pictures but never printing and framing them to put up in our house. This is a great way to see the photos you’ve taken either by a professional photographer or on your phone. Digital photo frames range in price from $100-$300 just depending on what you are looking for.

Customized Mother’s Day Photo card

Instead of sending her a normal card, send your Mom a customized Mother’s Day Card! Artifact Uprising is offering a free Mother’s Day card if you order by May 1, 2018. I love their prints and cards. They use heavy card stock and quality printing. While you’re there, take a look at their beautiful prints, frames, photo books, and prints with wood stands.

Custom set of photo coasters

Perfect for everyday use! There are a lot of places that have custom photo coasters. These are perfect for Grandma with lots of grandkids!

Subscription to Click Magazine

Does your Mom enjoy photography? Wants to learn more about photography? This magazine is perfect for everyone at any level! I read my cover to cover when it comes it. It has amazing tips! Plus, this gift gives all year round.

A camera charm

My husband gave me this one to put on my charm bracelet, and I love it! Especially since I’ve started shooting with film. This charm is super cute and really affordable! Check it out at here.

A gift certificate for family photos

Haven’t had family photos taken in awhile? Does Mom want updated photos to put up on the wall? Give it to her! Myself and many other photographers offer gift certificates for Moms because we know how much they want it! Contact me for your photo gift certificate.

These are just a few fun ideas to get you started! Take care of your Mom on Mother’s Day!

A special shout out to this Mom who had a special photo shoot with her son before she went out for Basic Training in the US Air Force. Thank you very much for your service and sacrifice!

Wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day!

6 must have Photos every Mom needs

Becoming a new Mom and parent is an incredible time. From pregnancy to birth to brining your newborn home, it can all be a whirlwind. Time gets away from you, then next thing you know, your babies are babies anymore. The toddler stage has hit then… whoosh! They’re of too kindergarten!

Time is fleeting.

Photographing all those special moments might not mean something now. However ten years down the road, all you will have are photographs of those times and moments in your life. You’ll look back on your photos, remember how small your children were, and wonder when they grew up.

As a Mom of four, I understand how fast time can slip away from you. It seems my youngest was just a baby. Yet, she turned 5 last week, and I just registered her for kindergarten! Now when I look back on photos of my kids when they were young, it seems like yesterday.

Below I want to share with you_____ photos and moments you should be capturing in photographed to remember. These photos will become memories and heirlooms for your children and grandchildren, and hopefully generations to come.

The Belly Shot

An expecting mother’s body is beautiful! She’s growing a little human in her belly which is worth celebrating and capturing the moment.

Mom and her partner are going to raise this little human. They are the original puzzle pieces of this new family and deserve to be recognized as the couple they are and will be.

The Newborn Photo

No matter what type of newborn photography you want, get it done! Long story, but I never got photos of my first born son when he was born. To this day I regret, and I can never go back and recapture that moment unless someone invents time travel. Don’t have regrets. Have professional newborn photography done.

One year old Photos

Whether you choose to have a smash cake session or a normal photo shoot with your newly turned one year old, capture the moment. Smash cakes are fun! Messy cake plus kids who love sweets = big smiles all around. But just having your 1 year old run around a field, playing with dirt and sticks creates fun moments too!

Sibling Photos

Have more than one child, get all of them in one frame! Having a photo of all your children is priceless.

Family Photos

I know how stressful getting a family photo can be! You should see my kids kicking and screaming when I ask them to wear a shirt they always wear, but the one time I ask them to put it on, you’d think I’ve asked them to swim the English Channel! All of it is worth it in the end! Getting a yearly family photo allows you keep the memory of how big they were and how much the changed recorded.

So Moms with all the hard work you put in raising your children, don’t forget to capture the small moments because in 20 years, you’ll be very happy you did! Having these moments in photographs is an investment that will last a lifetime!

Because They're Only Little Once | Austin and Round Rock Family Photographer

Like all professions, family photography has its busy season. Family photographers are usually busy September through about mid-December.

I understand. Fall is a busy time of year for all of us. A lot of families want to have an updated photograph for themselves and to put on holiday cards for friends and family. But your family photos are more than a holiday card.

I get it… but here’s the truth.

They are only little once.

Maybe you have a newborn. Maybe you have a 2 year old and are enjoying the excitement going into the toddler years. You might have a 5 year old heading to kindergarten in the fall. Maybe you have a 12 year old tween who is on the cusp of becoming a mini-adult. Or you might have a 16 year old who is driving, independent, and you only have a few more years left until they leave the house.

It doesn’t matter the age, this is the only time they’ll ever be it. So celebrate it!

Now is the perfect time for photos!

Capture the uniqueness that is your child, no matter what age and time of year. You don’t need a reason to have photos taken.

Believe me… you will not ever regret having your child and family’s photo taken.

And trust me, you’ll be glad you did!

What is the best age to photograph babies?

My best friend texted me yesterday asking me a simple question of what is the best age to photograph her daughter. First of all, her daughter is adorable, like every baby, so any age is a good age.

But…

There are certain ages that work best for babies to be photographed, and those are milestones months.

Milestone months for babies are

  • Newborn

  • 3 months old

  • 6 months old

  • 9 months old

  • 1 year old

Each of these represents a different stage in their first year of life. Newborns are wonderfully cuddly and beautiful. It’s a special stage of new life and new beginnings. Best time to photograph newborns is within the first 10 days of birth.

3 month old babies are more alert with their eyes open, looking around, and starting to understand what is going on all around them. The baby’s personality are starting to show.

6 month old babies are usually sitting up and playing with toys actively. Babies will hold items (and probably throw them). And their personalities are definitely alive and well. This is a fun age to photograph!

9 month old babies are usually crawling and moving around. Babies are definitely interacting with Mom/Dad and other family members. They love to play!

1 year old babies are finally one! It’s their milestone birthday which definitely deserves a celebratory photo session! Some one year old babies are walking. Each has their own personality which really shines through. Smash cake sessions are fun to photograph because it really captures if the one year old is shy or adventurous.

So there you have it!

Now there is some give and take for each milestone month. If you wait a month, it’s no biggie! Photographing babies is a fun adventure for me, as your photographer, you, and your baby! We’ll have fun, play around, capture smiles, and their little personality!

If you’re interested in capturing your baby’s milestone photos or would like to schedule a 1 year old birthday session, please contact me or email me at emilyingallsphotography@gmail.com! I’d love to talk to you about what you’re looking for and how I can capture beautiful photos and memories for you and your family!
