2019 has arrived!

With the new year, treat yourself to a new headshot!

As professionals, we represent our business’s visual brand. Since we want our brand to represent us, the best way to convey your professionalism is an updated professional headshot.

Whether you want a relaxed, fun headshot or you need a traditional headshot taken, make sure your headshot represents you as a person. No awkward smiles. No weird, diagonal tilts and angles. Just a dynamic, professional headshot which conveys who you and your business are.

Why should you pay for a professional headshot and not just snap a quick photo on your phone? It conveys professionalism to your website, potential clients, investors, and marketing materials.

  1. A good headshot gives your clients and investors an idea of your personality before they meet you. A serious look portrays determination. Whereas, a smile portrays approachability. A good photographer will help bring out your personality in your headshot.

  2. It reminds business contacts who you are if they have met you in the past. Having a face to go with a name gives potential clients and business associates a level of comfort than just seeing a name.

  3. A current headshot gives people a sense to see what you look like now. For example, a lot of my new clients don't have a chance to meet me in person before their first photography session. My headshot allows them to know what I look like when I meet them at a location.

  4. It supports and enhances your social media profiles, such as LinkedIn, Google Business, Facebook, and Instagram. This allows you to stand out from others who do not have a good professional headshot in their profiles.

  5. It feels good to look good in your photo! Confidence comes in many forms. Having a good, quality Headshot where you know you look good, builds confidence which can be seen by potential clients and investors.

Photographing a genuine smile! | Round Rock Family Photographer

As a photographer, I dread hearing people say, "Say cheese!" while I'm trying to photograph families and children.  They are honestly trying to help, but in the end, I get one of these weird smiles like this (and this is my own kid!).

Definitely not a genuine smile! He was probably thinking if I just smile nice I'll get this over with. Alas, it didn't work and I ended up with a crazy smile.

Definitely not a genuine smile! He was probably thinking if I just smile nice I'll get this over with. Alas, it didn't work and I ended up with a crazy smile.

One of the best compliments I received from someone was when they told me, 'You just seem to capture the real person, someone's genuine being.  Not just a smile and nice picture.'  I about swooned when I heard it because that is exactly my goal!

I want to capture a person's character... their genuine happiness.  That's what I'm about.

I don't want to just hand someone pretty pictures with people smiling on them.  I want to hand them gorgeous, not just pretty, family photos with true emotion and personality.

Each one of use is unique.  Every child and person I photograph has their own personality.  Some kids are just serious.  Some kids are happy-go-lucky and have nothing but smiles.  It's finding out how to capture them uniquely that gives me great joy.

Here are a few quick tips I use to capture a genuine smile on children anyone can use!

  1. Don't ever ask a person to say cheese.  Just don't.  They always look awkward.  (see photo above)
  2. Ask them to finish this sentence, "We all scream for _________!"  They'll scream ice cream and start giggling!
  3. Tell them not to smile in a very serious voice, then just keep repeating yourself.  9 times out of 10 they start smiling and giggling after about the 4th time I've told them not too.
  4. As them to jump, twirl, sing their favorite song!  Children love being active and showing off for people.

I won't sit here and tell you this works all the time, but most of the time it does!  Try it for yourself when you're out photographing your own family life!

Trip to Rome, Italy!

I'm really behind on sharing these photos!  My awesome husband took me to Rome, Italy back in October 2017.  We went with my brother and brother-in-law.  We had an amazing trip!

I stepped out of my comfort zone and focused on street photography.  I photographed all the big landmarks and all the interesting stuff I was able to find on side streets and all over the city.  We hit all the tourists attractions like the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, the Roman Forum, the Spanish Steps, several fountains, and Vatican City.  We also just walked around Rome and did our best not to get hit and run over by the crazy moped drivers (and there were a lot!).

And the food!  Oh Italian food is spectacular!  I highly recommend going to Rome just to eat amazing food for a week straight!  We ate gelato everyday, and I have no regrets.

Enjoy a photographers paradise (or one of them)... Rome, Italy!

The flight to England and subsequent layover at Heathrow took it out of these three.

Family Photo Session | Georgetown, TX

I've share of few of the photos from this session on my Facebook page.  However, I just had to share more because I loved it so much!

I shot these family photos in Georgetown at the Dimebox Ballroom.  I had not heard of the location before, but checked it out after this family asked me about it.  This is the cutest little venue, and the owners were so nice!  I'm so happy I found out about it, even if by accident.

Enjoy these family photos taken in Georgetown, Texas!

Ringing in 2018!

It's not too hard to believe it's 2018.  At least for me.

I am happy to leave 2017 behind.  It was a year full of accomplishments, goals, expectations, along with sickness, disappointment and failures.  Last year brought me to my humble knees along with lifting me up and giving me great highs.

One of my favorite highlights from last year was a trip to Rome, Italy I took with my husband, brother and brother-in-law.  I had great expectations of writing and sharing my entire trip on my blog, but life got in the way and I didn't get the opportunity to share.  But let me just say, it's was a trip I will never forget in the best way possible.

And somethings I could have lived without would be coming down with Shingles.  Ugh!  It was not pleasant, and it was brought on my stress.  I do not want a repeat of that.  And I could have lived without my 5 year old son breaking his arm two weeks before Christmas and sitting in an ER for 7 hours.  Then having to have surgery to fix it three days after Christmas.  He's still in a cast and will be until mid-January.  I'm just thankful it's finally fixed properly.

As for 2018, I have goals swirling around in my head I need to write down on paper.  Photography goals, business goals, and personal goals.  I find I keep myself a lot more accountable if I write them down in a place where I'll see them throughout the year.  They will go into my 2018 Planner that also has my monthly calendar.

I'm looking forward to the New Year.  I want to make positive changes not only in my life but my family's life.  I'm determined to be more positive and optimistic.  I tend to be a pessimistic, glass half-empty type of person.

Here's to a new year.  More blogging, writing, and sharing myself with you instead of just my client's photos.
