Newborn Twins in the NICU | Austin, TX

As many of you who read my blogs regularly know, I'm a volunteer photographer with The Tiny Footprints Project.  The Tiny Footprints Project offers free photo sessions to parents who have newborns in the NICU.  They have photographers all over the country who volunteer their time to give parents the precious gifts of photos and memories during an especially difficult time.

I had the opportunity to photographer newborn twins at Dell Children's in Austin at the beginning of October.  They were only ten days old at the time and were so tiny.  Their parents were the nicest people who already adored both of their precious babies.  Photographing their twins was an honor, and I hope they cherish these memories for years to come.

Newborn Photo Session in the NICU | Austin, TX

There's nothing quite like having a photography session of twin boys in the NICU to humble me.

It's getting towards the end of summer which means I'm counting down the days until school starts for my children.  Between the bickering amongst themselves and not getting any along time, I'm ready for school to start.  I love my children, but like any good mom, I need time away from them for my own sanity.  I can only take hearing, "Mom, (insert any child's name here) hit me," or "Mom, what are we eating for dinner, breakfast, or lunch?"  It just gets old after awhile, very old.

Enter The Tiny Footprint Project and sweet twins.  These twin boys were in the NICU for 6 weeks after being born early.  Their parents were the sweetest couple and couldn't wait to get their twin boys home.  It's moments when talking to the parents in the NICU that I love the most because they unknowingly put life into perspective.  And it came at the perfect time.  They were able to bring their twins home just a few days after this newborn NICU photo session.  Give some loving to these cute twin boys!

Newborn Photos in the NICU | Austin, TX

One of the greatest gifts I can give as a photographer is creating good memories out of a not-so-good situation.  And I have the best opportunity to do this when I get to have a photo session in the NICU as part of The Tiny Footprints Project.

The newborns I photograph come into this world under situations no one would ever want, but they turn into little fighters from the beginning.  Being a preemie is not for the faint of heart, but all of these newborns have an inner fighter's strength.  Their parents provide the best support system through unconditional love and encouragement.  When I am able to photograph these preemies who have grown big enough to called newborns, it truly humbles me.  Yet another reason why being a photographer is a joy!

I photographed Baby Jordan in the NICU at Seton Hospital in downtown Austin.  He truly is a little fighter and a healthy baby boy!

Creating Memories inside the NICU

Awhile back, a photographer posted in a local group about needing more photographer volunteers for The Tiny Footprint Project.  Something about the post hit me and made an impression.

I looked into The Tiny Footprint Project to see what it was all about.  This wonderful organization is a non-profit which matches families living with infants in the NICU with professional local photographers to provide a lifestyle session to capture the newborns earliest moments.  I knew I wanted to be a part of this great organization.

As a mom, I know how important it is to document your babies beginnings because they grow so fast.  Newborns in the NICU are extra special and extra strong as are their families.  Enjoy this sweet session of baby Leila!
